Black History Month Digital Exhibition Call for Artists

Yonge-Dundas Square and the Centre for Emerging Artists & Designers are excited to announce the Black History Month Digital Exhibition Career Launcher providing an exhibition opportunity for three (3) artists from the OCAD U community to exhibit their work on the square’s digital screens. Artists are invited to submit artworks to be displayed across five (5) digital screens for the duration of Black History Month in February 2023, reflecting on what role artists can play in the city’s public spaces.

The Public Gallery Window Exhibition

The Public and the RBC Centre for Emerging Artists & Designers are excited to announce The Public Gallery Window Exhibition Career Launcher, providing an exhibition opportunity for one (1) recent OCAD U grad from December, 2022 to January 2023. The selected artist will receive a fee of $1000 and production support budget of $200 from the RBC Centre for Emerging Artists & Designers.

Clark Centre for the Arts
Call for Curators/Cultural Producers for Group Exhibition

The opportunity will select one (1) emerging curator/cultural producer to coordinate an exhibition at the Clark Centre for the Arts for June of 2023 in their Gallery 191 space. Curators/ cultural producers are invited to submit an exhibition proposal with three (3) to five (5) five artists from the OCAD U community. The selected applicant will receive guidance from a curatorial mentor, designated by the Clark Centre for the Arts.

Call for Artists

Partial Gallery and OCAD University are excited to announce the return of our partnership which provides an exceptional career opportunity for OCAD U student artists and recent alumni (2020). 40 selected artists will be given complimentary 1 year Pro Accounts on Partial and inclusion as featured artists within the OCAD University Artist Showcase on Partial’s online platform in order to showcase their works, and administrate artwork sales and rentals.

ROM, Canadian Modern Exhibition, Call for Designers

OCAD University’s RBC Centre for Emerging Artists & Designers (CEAD) and ROM (Royal Ontario Museum) have partnered to co-create the Canadian Modern exhibition Career Launcher. The opportunity will select six (6) emerging designers, representing different practices, and a diverse range of voices and approaches for ROM’s fall 2022 exhibition, Canadian Modern.

The Programs, Publications & Shop Assistant will join Art Metropole’s team to support activities at their 896 College Street space, at pop-up locations, and online.

SLATE Asset Management
Call for Artists 

Slate Asset Management is seeking proposals for a rotating public art exhibit that will animate the lobby of 2 St. Clair West in the Yonge St. + St. Clair Avenue West community. Slate welcomes Drawing & Painting students graduating in 2022, working in all mediums to submit proposals. The selected artists will each receive a $3,000 rental fee for the 6-month display of their works.

Contemporary Textile Studio
Co-op Residency

Announcing the inaugural Contemporary Textile Studio Artist Residency Career Launcher for students or recent grads (2021, 2022). One (1) successful applicant will be awarded a 9 week self-directed residency with Contemporary Textile Studio Cooperative ($550 value) which grants them access to the co-op’s studio, facilities and equipment. Additionally, the CEAD will provide the selected artist with $300 to support the cost of materials and supplies during their residency.

SwissVBS, Illustrator Intern

Announcing a recruited placement in partnership with SwissVBS for the role of Illustrator Intern. Reporting to the Visual Design Team Lead and Illustrator, the  Illustrator Intern will be responsible for editing and archiving illustration assets, as well as contributing to project-related tasks. The selected candidate will play a supporting role to the Visual Design Team in carrying out their duties.

Studio Assistant, Secret Planet

Announcing a recruited placement in partnership with Secret Planet for the role of Studio Assistant. Working closely with Secret Planet Print Shop, the Studio Assistant would gain hands on knowledge around the day-today workings of running and managing a print shop with their team. The recipient will also be given a three day rental credit ($300 value) and $150 materials credit from the CEAD.

Akin Studio

The Akin Career Launcher is returning this year for Drawing & Painting and Integrated Media students in their graduating term. Students are invited to apply for this opportunity and two successful applicants will be awarded $2,000 in credits to go towards a studio space at Akin’s shared workspaces in 2022-2023! In addition to the $2,000 studio credit, each recipient will receive $450 credit for use at Remote Gallery at Richmond and Portland.

The Career Launcher Fund returns this year for Undergraduate and Master's students graduating in 2022. Apply for up to $350. This fund supports activities relating to professional practice and skills development as you transition out of school to begin your career. Eligible activities should fall in one of the 4 pillars below:

Announcing the inaugural Colour Code Publishing Career Launcher, an opportunity for one OCAD U student or one OCAD U student group to publish a risographic book project with Colour Code Publishing & Printing. This is a great opportunity for artists and designers interested in artists’ books, risograph printing, and learning the print and production process. The recipient(s)

Announcing the Gallery 44 Full Membership Career Launcher for students in their graduating term. Three (3) successful applicants will be awarded a Full Membership with Gallery 44 ($180 value) and $500 in credits to go towards the rental of Gallery 44 equipment and facilities. Gallery 44’s production facilities support artistic production and feature both analog and digital equipment.

Announcing the inaugural Trinity Square Video Membership Career Launcher for students in their graduating term. Three (3) successful applicants will be awarded a Producing Membership with TSV and $500 in credits to go towards the rental of TSV equipment, and participation in workshops. TSV offers equipment such as cameras, lenses, lights, projectors, screens, 360 cameras, and audio gear just to name a few.

Announcing the inaugural TTL Makerspace Membership Career Launcher for students in their graduating term. Two (2) successful applicants will be awarded a Membership with TTL Makerspace for four months ($308 value) and $400 in credits towards materials and equipment rental. TTL Makerspace includes a wood shop, CNC router, production studio, tool library and more.

Illustration Studio 2022

Illustration students are invited to apply for this opportunity and four (4) successful applicants will be awarded one year of free studio space in 401 Richmond in from June 2022 to May 2023. This is an incredible opportunity to become part of a larger creative community and connect with like-minded creative practitioners. Applications will be reviewed by ILLU Faculty members during GradEx.

Announcing the inaugural Toronto Animated Image Society Career Launcher for students in their graduating term. Two (2) successful applicants will be awarded a Studio Membership with TAIS and $300 in credits to go towards the rental of TAIS studio space. TAIS provides professional, specialized animation production studios for artists engaged in the creation of independent animated work.

Call for Artists

OCAD University’s Centre for Emerging Artists & Designers and NEO Exchange, Canada’s next-generation stock exchange, have partnered to co-create the NEO Commissioning Program. Five (5) emerging artists from OCAD U, working in a variety of mediums, will be commissioned to provide works of art to commemorate the listing of a corporate client or the launch of a new fund on the NEO stock exchange.

RBC Commissioning Program
Call for Artists

OCAD University is excited to announce an inaugural partnership with the RBC Curatorial Department to establish an ambitious program that will commission original editioned 2D artwork, by OCAD U artists, into RBC offices and spaces.
The program will select ten emerging artists, representing different artistic practices, providing a diversity of artistic voices and approaches to be showcased in the commissioning program. Artists will receive $1,500 per commissioned per editioned set.

Programs Assistant

Announcing a recruited placement in partnership with Gallery TPW for the role of Programs Assistant. Gallery TPW is a leading artist-run centre dedicated to exhibiting underrepresented artistic and curatorial practices that push the boundaries of lens-based work. The Programs Assistant will join the Gallery TPW team to support their programming planning and execution, promotion and communication, elements of fundraising, and general administration.

Announcing the return of the Artist Project Career Launcher for an upper year student or recent graduate of the Integrated Media, Digital Futures or Sculpture/Installation programs. Students and recent alum are invited to apply for this paid opportunity which provides a professional venue and large public audience for their work at the Queen Elizabeth Building, April 21 - 24, 2022. The Centre for Emerging Artists & Designers will provide a $2,000 production grant towards the realization of this outstanding opportunity.

Call for Artists & Makers

Our partnership with Toronto Outdoor Art Fair (TOAF), Canada’s leading contemporary outdoor art fair returns this year. The TOAF Career Launcher  is for students in the Illustration, Material Art & Design, Photography, Sculpture and Installation and Printmaking/ Publications programs. The selected students will have a free opportunity at the 61st TOAF to showcase their artworks in-person and online at TOAF.ca.
