NEO Commissioning Program: Call for Artists

OPPORTUNITY DESCRIPTION

OCAD University’s RBC Centre for Emerging Artists & Designers and NEO Exchange, Canada’s next-generation stock exchange, have partnered to co-create the NEO Commissioning Program. Five (5) emerging artists from OCAD U, working in a variety of mediums, will be commissioned to provide works of art to commemorate the listing of a corporate client or the launch of a new fund on the NEO stock exchange.

The NEO Commissioning Program will select and retain five (5) emerging artists, representing different artistic practices, providing a diversity of artistic voices and approaches to be showcased in the commissioning program. Working under the guidance of a Curatorial Coordinator and responding to a client creative brief, each artist will be commissioned to produce approximately four (4) original artworks over the course of the program term. Artists will receive $1,200 per commissioned work. Completed works will be prominently bestowed to NEO Exchange clients and be cherished with their corporate art collections.


We are happy to announce that the recipients of this opportunity are Donny NieEmma EnrightJason ZanteLily Huang, and Malik McKoy.

The commissioned works will be proudly featured in NEO Exchange’s promotion of its new listings via virtual or live events, social media posts, and email newsletters. The commissioned work (with artist credit) will be displayed in a gallery of NEO listings online at www.neo.inc.

RECIPIENTS


Donny Nie

Donny Nie is an emerging painter, sculptor. She is a 2021 MFAcandidate at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and a 2019 BFAgraduate from OCAD University, via a full-scholarship. Nie has exhibited in theUS and Canada, at venues such as Bau-xi Gallery, Northern Contemporary,Scotiabank CONTACT Photography Festival, Buddy at Chicago Cultural Center,Mercedes-Benz Financial Services, and I Like Your Work Podcast.

Emma Enright

Emma Enright is a textile artist and designer from Dundas, Ontario. Her current series of work investigates the materiality of textiles with a specific emphasis on weaving. Embodying traditional weaving techniques she creates contemporary handwoven cloth for interior spaces. She uses a systematic order to create visual and sculptural designs. They evoke and contextualize ideas reminiscent of the natural world. Inspired by naturalistic forms, she uses the thread intuitively when weaving. 

Jason Zante

Jason Zante is a Filipino Canadian multidisciplinary artist based in Toronto, Canada. His bold and contrasting illustrations emphasize form, line, and the use of colour relationships as a medium to incite an emotional response with the subjects in focus. The exploration of colour is a central element in his artwork. He infuses vibrant colours in his compositions that depict stillness in time, Philippine culture, and ethereal landscapes. 

Lily Huang

Lily Huang is a first-generation Chinese-Canadian visual artist and illustratorbased in Toronto. Her artistic practice references the history of heritage intechnique and materials. Through her artworks, she aims to communicate theintricacies of connection, of people and the world we inhabit, and representsthe empowerment and celebration of personhood. In her illustrativepractice, she utilizes digital and analog tools to create original designs tobe used in web and print media such as conceptual illustration, packaging, andadvertising. Her work speaks to her visual language to tell rich narrativeswith intricate details that are grounded in a colourful world. 

Malik McKoy

Malik McKoy is a multimedia artistbased in Ajax, Ontario. McKoyrecently graduated from OCAD University with a BFA from the Drawing andPainting program. McKoy has also recently graduated from Seneca’s Game Art andAnimation program. McKoy’s practice consists ofpainting and producing computer-generated 3D visuals. Straddling the linebetween analog and digital, McKoy attempts to create an intersection of both mediums. While vibrant and playful, the subject matter of his workis subdued and references the artist’s everyday life experiences - often focusingon different aspects of his identity.
