OPPORTUNITY DESCRIPTION

Graduating ILLU students were invited to apply for this opportunity and four (4) successful applicants were awarded one year of free studio space in 401 Richmond in from June 2021 to May 2022. 

This is an incredible opportunity to become part of a larger creative community and connect with like-minded creative practitioners. Applications were reviewed by ILLU Faculty members during the graduating medals and awards process.

Recent Illustration grads Lina Wu, Meegan Lim, Sid Sharp and Thamara Perera are the winners of the Illustration Studio Career Launcher, and will receive one year of studio space in 401 Richmond!

ARTISTS

Lina Wu

Lina Wu (BDes OCAD U) is an artist learning and playing in Tkaronto. She conjures images and stories that meld adolescence, gender, fantasy, and figuration.

When not creating visual art or writing, Lina works in arts administration and teaches workshops and mentorships

Meegan Lim

Meegan Lim (she/her) is an illustrator and emerging arts facilitator based in Brampton & Toronto. She is known for her detailed illustrations focusing on food and cultural identity, and the vast stories that exist within those intersections.

Her mission is to create art that is inviting in its aesthetic, thoughtful in its research, and illuminating with its subject matter. 

Sid Sharp

Sid is an artist and illustrator from Toronto who makes drawings, paintings, and comics. They are mostly interested in folklore, horror stories, and finding good sticks for their stick collection. Sid attended OCAD University, works in a bookstore, and published The Wolf Suit, their first graphic novel for kids, with Annick Press in October 2022.


Thamara Perera

Thamara Perera is an emerging mixed-media illustrator, artist and creative based in Toronto, Canada. She graduated from OCAD University in 2021 and holds a Bachelor of Design in Illustration. Her work explores themes of human identity, duality, transformation, and femininity, especially relating to her South Asian heritage.

401 Richmond is a restored, heritage-designated, industrial building turned arts-and-culture hub in downtown Toronto. It is home to over 140 artists, cultural producers, social innovators, micro-enterprises, galleries, festivals and shops.

OCAD University’s RBC Centre for Emerging Artists & Designers is excited to announce the return of the 401 Richmond Illustration Studio for graduating Illustration students.

Graduating ILLU students are invited to apply for this opportunity and four (4) successful applicants will be awarded one year of free studio space in 401 Richmond in from June 2021 to May 2022. This is an incredible opportunity to become part of a larger creative community and connect with like-minded creative practitioners. COVID SAFETY MEASURES

The studio will be cleaned and disinfected before move-in. The selected will go through orientation to go through 401 Richmond's COVID safety measures more thoroughly.

  • Must be an undergraduate Illustration major in their graduating year
