OPPORTUNITY DESCRIPTION
The Centre for Emerging Artists & Designers is excited to bring back the Illustration Studio Career Launcher for students in their graduating year. Students are invited to apply for this opportunity and four (4) successful applicants will be awarded one year of free studio space in 401 Richmond in from June 2020 to May 2021.
This is an incredible opportunity to become part of a larger creative community and connect with like-minded creative practitioners. Applications were reviewed by Illustration faculty members.
Recent Illustration grads Elijah White, Kirollos Kilada, Lilian Sim and Zuna Amir are the winners of the Illustration Studio Career Launcher, and will receive one year of studio space in 401 Richmond!
ARTISTS
Elijah is an illustrator, designer, and printmaker specializing in creating fun, bold, colourful, visually appealing illustrations with impact! To him, variety truly is the spice of life, and Elijah enjoys taking on new challenges and experiences head on, bringing his creative skills to the task at hand!
Kirollos is an artist and illustrator working in a variety of techniques, old and contemporary to create work that finds meaning in mystery and chaos. His work focuses on visual metaphors and symbolic language. In this way, Kirollos tells stories from history, current news and everyday occurrences.
Lilian Sim was born and raised in Toronto. She works mainly in watercolour, ink, and gouache but also enjoys working with ceramics, printmaking, and weaving.
Zuna is a Pakistani-Canadian multidisciplinary artist, her work emphasizing form, line and details as a response to the environment around her. Exploration of colour is a central element in Zuna's artwork with the illumination of the ordinary with themes of spiritual journeys, cultural patterning and the mundane.
401 Richmond
401 Richmond is a restored, heritage-designated, industrial building turned arts-and-culture hub in downtown Toronto. It is home to over 140 artists, cultural producers, social innovators, micro-enterprises, galleries, festivals and shops.
