Tiffany Chin
Tiffany Chin is a Toronto-based illustrator who creates all things strange. Inspired by psychedelic posters and vintage advertisements, she strives to step beyond the boundaries of convention to create visually jarring imagery.

Sara Shoghi
Sara Shoghi isa Toronto-based interdisciplinary artist with a Master’s degree inInterdisciplinary Art, Media, and Design (IAMD) from OCAD University and astrong background in Illustration. Her work is rooted in the dynamic interplaybetween 2D and 3D design, seamlessly merging digital and traditional mediums tocreate visually striking pieces that push the boundaries of visualstorytelling. Sara’s practice is characterized by an exploration of diversematerials, techniques, and concepts, allowing her to craft artworks thatresonate with a broad audience.

Her art oftenreflects contemporary themes, drawing inspiration from both personalexperiences and broader social issues. Through her innovative approach, Saraaims to challenge conventional perspectives, creating immersive works thatinvite viewers to engage deeply with the subject matter.

OPPORTUNITY DESCRIPTION

OCAD University’s RBC Centre for Emerging Artists & Designers is excited to partner with Hullmark to create an exclusive call-for-submissions from members of the OCAD U community.

Hullmark is seeking two (2) artists who will eachbe awarded $2,500 for artwork development and delivery ofhigh-resolution digital files for a permanent mural withinthe interior stairwell of the 115 Larchmount property. The recipients willbe selected on the basis of a short project proposal, the strength of theirportfolio of existing work, and other professional skills. Artists areencouraged to speak to the relevance of their work to the building andsurrounding area in their proposal.

SITE & PROJECT DETAILS

Located in the heart of Leslieville, Toronto'svibrant and eclectic neighbourhood where urban living meets the comforts of aclose-knit community. Its tree-lined streets are adorned with quaint, historichomes, providing a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

Designed by Superkul, 115 Larchmount is a47-unit boutique building that stands as a testament to modern convenience andlocal charm. Its art-deco-inspired design seamlessly integrates into thestreetscape, creating a contemporary oasis within this well-establishedcommunity. www.115larchmount.ca

The scope of work for this project includes:

• Development of high-resolution digital files for a vinyl printed mural onone of the following sites:

  • Site A (Artist #1): One (1) wall of ground floor hallway measuring:
    • 100 ft long x 5.5 ft tall (from ground to half of wall height)
  • Site B (Artist #2): Three (3) stairwell landings (every other floor) measuring:
    • 7.89 ft wide x 8.36 ft high
    • 7.9 ft wide x 7.7 ft high
    • 7.9 ft wide x 7.7 ft high

• The selected artist(s) will submit a series of preliminary work to the client for approval

• Preliminary work to be adjusted based client’s comments

• Final draft to be submitted to the client for final approval before production of the final artwork.

• The final artwork will be submitted to the printer as a high-resolution full scale digital artwork for print on adhesive vinyl, no later than September 24, 2024

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS

  • Full contact information (Name, phone, and email) 
  • Creative CV 
  • Website and/or Social Media handle 
  • A brief descriptive project proposal that contextualizes your approach to the mural within the context of your artistic practice (200 words max)
  • A corresponding list for the support images including: artist name, title, year, medium, size details, in one PDF (in the same PDF as artwork images)

    *If submitting as a group, applicants can submit the above materials for each individual group member, or as the group

KEY DATES 

September 10 - 24: Artwork production period. Including sketches, approval process and final artwork delivery as digital files

September 25 onward: Artwork produced on vinyl and installed by Hullmark

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Current OCAD U undergraduate students who will have 15+ credits by start of Fall 2024 term, current OCAD U Master’s students, or recent OCAD U alumni (2020 - 2024)
  • Must be able to create new, original work within the project timeline outlined above
  • Previous experience with art commissions or producing large-scale murals for clients is an asset
  • ILLU, DRPT, IAMD  students and grads are encouraged to apply. 

*Collectives and groups are welcome to apply as long as the group consists only of eligible OCAD U students/grads.

RATE

  • $2,500 Commission fee
