We're excited to announce Anoosh Mubashar, Gabby Golec, Mark Krzepis, and Nik October-Clydesdale as the recipients of the 401 Richmond Illustration Studio Career Launcher.

Anoosh Mubashar is a Toronto-based artist who enjoys working in manymediums, especially paint and printmaking. She is inspired by the human mind,nature, and expresses art through familial stories of nostalgia and growingpains. She enjoys incorporating graphic street styles with dainty, renderedimages to explore the contradictions found in everyday life.

Gabby Golec is amultidisciplinary illustrator and comic artist based in Toronto. Their workoften explores the contradictory forms of soft, yet jagged bodies, capturingthem with a sense of spontaneity and vulnerability. Gabby also enjoys drawingbugs and people in love.

Mark Krzepis is a Toronto illustrator whose work muddiesthe line between high and low subject matter. Inspired by literature, music,art history, and the absurd, he draws upon themes of human nature relevant inboth fine art and lowbrow illustration. Through a colourful complementarypalette and animated shapes, Mark taps into the rich knowledge of traditionalillustration. He has illustrated cover art for Toronto artists such asBADBADNOTGOOD and Charlotte Day Wilson, conducted interviews with creativeslike Wolfgang Tillmans, and exhibited in art galleries in both Canada and theUnited States.

Nik October-Clydesdale isa multidisciplinary artist based in Toronto. They graduated from Queen'sUniversity in 2016 and Ontario College of Art and Design in 2024, where theywere awarded the Illustration program medal for their thesis, "Permeability".Nik works in illustration, ceramics, and painting, with a focus on materialityand intimacy.

OPPORTUNITY DESCRIPTION

OCAD University’s RBC Centre for Emerging Artists & Designers is excited to announce the return of the 401 Richmond Illustration Studio for graduating Illustration students.

Graduating ILLU students are invited to apply for this opportunity and four (4) successful applicants will be awarded one year of free studio space in 401 Richmond in from June 2024 to May 2025. This is an incredible opportunity to become part of a larger creative community and connect with like-minded creative practitioners. Applications will be reviewed by ILLU Faculty members during the graduating medals and awards process. The studio will be cleaned and disinfected before move-in.

  • Must be an undergraduate Illustration major in their graduating year
  • Must have the intention of being present in the Greater Toronto Area following graduation in order to make regular use of this opportunity
