Solo exhibit winner : Morgan Sears-Williams

Exhibition: SOFT: transformative queer love and care

Artscape Youngplace Hallway Gallery

2nd Floor, 180 Shaw Street, Toronto

November 2nd - November 24th 2017

Opening reception: Thursday November 2nd, 6-9pm

SOFT: transformative queer love and care explores the different manifestations of love and care and the intersections with politicized bodies, protest and reclamation of space.

Where are the unexpected spaces where love and care manifest? What spaces are seen as more ‘legitimate’ than others? How can we challenge the idea of legitimacy of love and care within an intersectional queer lens?
Morgan would like to acknowledge the Mississaugas of New Credit, the Haudenosaunee and the Huron-Wendat, the original keepers of this land, for hosting us during the reception and for the duration of the show. We are very grateful to have the opportunity to live and work on this land.

The Centre for Emerging Artists & Designers (CEAD) is excited to announce the 4th annual Artscape Youngplace Career Launcher for graduating Photography students. This year, students are offered the opportunity to participate in an extended group exhibition in the Hallway Galleries of Artscape Youngplace. The curatorial team at Artscape will work with faculty, CEAD, and an OCAD U Photo alumni to transform the Hallway Galleries into a showcase of emerging contemporary photographic practices, for select recipients.

As part of the Career Launcher, a jury comprised of faculty members, a graduate of the CRCP program, and the curatorial committee at Artscape Youngplace will select an artist from the group exhibition and award them a solo show in Fall 2017. The solo show recipient will be provided complimentary access to Youngplace's Flex Studio facilities in order to help realize their exhibition of new work. In addition, an essay will be commissioned from the CRCP graduate to accompany the solo exhibition.
